Caffeine content will differ substantially depending on the beverage. A double espresso can contain up to 600mg of caffeine, with a typical filter coffee having only around 40mg, knowing how much caffeine is in your favourite drink might be the difference between an energetic day and a sleepless night.
Aromatic Arabica, or rich Robusta, the beans you choose for your favourite coffee differs as much as in flavour as in their caffeine content. Robusta generally contains double the amount of coffee as Arabica with 1.8% – 4% caffeine content compared to the 0.8% – 1.4% of Arabica.
Your brewing method influences the amount of caffeine you will extract from every bean. Coffees brewed over a longer period of time, and using hotter water are better at extracting caffeine from coffee beans resulting in higher caffeine content.
A cup of coffee can mean vastly different things to different people. An average cup of espresso is only around 30 ml, where Venti Lattes can be in the 700 ml range. The amount of caffeine in each cup will as a result vary, but, generally speaking, the more coffee you drink, the more caffeine you are likely to consume.
