With so many different types, sizes, and features to choose from, buying a new oven can be a daunting process. To find out which oven is best for your needs, consider the style of your kitchen, your installation preference (built-in or freestanding) and your cooking habits. Our helpful oven buying guide answers the most commonly asked questions.

Installation types: built-in oven or freestanding oven

While personal preferences do play a part, the type of oven is often determined by the layout and design of your kitchen. Integrated ovens must be professionally installed whereas a freestanding oven slots easily into any available space. Built-in ovens offer a more modern and sophisticated look. They can also be installed at a convenient height and combined with other appliances in a row that fits seamlessly together.

Built-in ovens

Built-in ovens are installed independently of the cooktop, offering more versatility. They can fit under the work surface or in a tall unit - vertically or horizontally at a height that suits.

What oven size do I need

Oven sizes vary depending on the model. However, ovens typically measure 60x60cm for standard models, 60x45cm for compact models, and 90x60cm for bigger models – with double ovens exceeding that. It’s important to choose an oven that fits the space available in your kitchen. If space is flexible, consider your cooking preferences. Siemens ovens come in four sizes: standard, compact, XL, and XXL. You have the option of combining a standard size oven with a standalone steamer. If space is a concern, combination ovens allow you to steam or microwave food without needing additional appliances. To know which size is right for you, we’ve provided the oven dimensions for each size.

Types of heating methods

There are three different oven heating methods: convection, microwave and steam. Most Siemens ovens use convection heating in combination with numerous intelligent functions. Some models include either an integrated microwave, steam functionality or both. Steamers are also available as standalone appliances that can compliment a standard convection oven.

Siemens' ovens offer also a range of standard and specialised heat settings for every type of dish.

  • 4D hotAir is ideal for baking and roasting all types of food, using up to four levels. The fan motor technology ensures even heat distribution throughout the oven interior

  • Hot air gentle and hot air eco is perfect for slow cooking poultry and smaller cuts of meat without preheating

  • The bottom-only mode is ideal for preserving, browning, and the final baking stage. Top/bottom mode is used to gently cook selected food types on one level

  • You have three settings for grilling, the small grill area, large grill area, and hot air grilling

What innovative oven features do Siemens offer

What is a self-cleaning oven

A self-cleaning oven (or pyrolytic oven) uses extremely high temperatures, up to 500 degrees Celsius, to turn food residue into ash. This can be easily wiped away without scrubbing or detergent. In addition to self-cleaning, Siemens offers ovens with technology to prevent dirt build-up and make cleaning easier.

Clean at a touch: activeClean

Clean your oven at the touch of a button with a pyrolytic oven. Remove any loose food first, then let activeClean turn all residue from baking, roasting, and grilling to ash at high temperature. Simply wipe up what remains.

Ovens that get less dirty need less cleaning. Siemens ecoClean is a special coating that disintegrates dirt and reduces odors during cooking. It regenerates every time you heat it, for the life of the appliance.

What benefits does a feature-connected oven give me?

With WiFi connectivity, you can control your oven using our Home Connect app on your smartphone. This allows you to preheat the oven before you arrive home, transfer recipe settings, use voice control and monitor the baking progress.

What type of oven is best for baking?

If you’re passionate about baking, you’ll want to find an oven that best suits your needs and space. Siemens ovens ensure optimal baking results with even heat distribution and intelligent sensors that monitor the temperature and moisture level to prevent overcooking.

Even heat distribution: 4D hotAir

Get the best baking results regardless of which shelf you choose. The innovative fan technology allows ideal heat distribution in the interior of the oven, so your dish always turns out evenly cooked.

Bake to perfection: bakingSensor Plus

Ready to bake? Simply prepare the pastry and select the dish. The bakingSensor Plus measures the moisture content in the oven interior and lets you know when the dish is ready.

What else to consider:

How much energy does an oven use?

Energy consumption depends on what temperatures you use most. However, most modern appliances use around 2.4kWh per hour on medium to high heat. Aside from gas, which uses no electricity, the most energy efficient ovens use convection heating.
