Cotton and hard-wearing fabrics
A pile of freshly laundered and folded white towels.

These are hot cycles that dry robust, natural fibres. Never use them for delicate or synthetic textiles that heat could damage.

  • Cottons: best for hard-wearing, heat-resistant cotton or linen items.
  • Cottons (Cupboard Dry Plus): choose for hard-wearing, heat-resistant fabrics that comprise more than one layer and don’t dry readily.
  • Cottons (Cupboard Dry): a good choice for ordinary, hard-wearing and heat-resistant fabrics made of a single layer of cotton or linen.
  • Cottons (Iron Dry): set for ordinary, hard-wearing and heat-resistant fabrics made of a single cotton or linen layer that you still want slightly damp to facilitate ironing or hanging.
  • Towels: best for hard-wearing towels and dressing gowns made of cotton. Shake each one before adding it to the dryer and consider using dryer or tennis balls.
  • Bed Linen: successfully dry large cotton items, such as duvet covers, pillowcases and sheets, thanks to optimised drum movement.
  • Hygiene Plus: use for hard-wearing items.
Blended and synthetic fabrics

Fabrics like polyester, nylon and rayon or blends are heat sensitive. As a result, they need cooler and slightly longer drying programmes to care for them. These programme options take care of that:

  • Easy-care: suitable for items made of synthetic or blended fabrics.
  • Easy-care (Cupboard Dry): best for ordinary, synthetic or blended fabrics made of a single layer.
  • Easy-Care (Iron Dry): select for ordinary, synthetic or blended fabrics made of a single layer that you still want slightly damp to facilitate ironing or hanging.
  • Mixed load: use for a combination of cotton and synthetic item.
Wool and delicates

Together with wool, fabrics such as silk, chiffon and lace as well as items with embroidery or embellishments are considered delicates and should be dried at very low temperatures. What’s more, you shouldn’t load the drum to its full capacity when running these cycles. Your manual will indicate the maximum load weight.

  • Wool finish: a very short, time programe for pre-drying woollens.
  • Wool basket: if your basket came with your machine, simply use the relevant programme. For a basket that was bought separately, select the warm timed programme.
  • Delicates: select for delicate, washable fabrics, such as satin and synthetic or blended fabrics.
Down & Duvets

The goose or duck feathers that make down both light and warm need special care. In addition to choosing the appropriate programme, add dryer or clean tennis balls to keep them fluffy and in shape.

  • Down wear: select for clothing, bedspreads or eiderdowns stuffed with down.
  • Duvets: best for clothing, pillows, quilts or bedspreads filled with synthetic fibres.
Sportswear

The multi-layered and fleece clothing favoured for exercising and adventures outdoors doesn’t handle heat well, but our cool programme treats them with a light touch. Consider using a short, timed programme after the cycle to get inner layers fully dry:

  • Sportswear: best for weatherproof and outdoor clothing with a membrane coating and water-repellent fabrics.
Shirts
A rail of cream- and nude-coloured blouses and shirts.

Considering they’re staples in many closets, it’s good news that your tumble dryer can quickly dry freshly laundered shirts and blouses.

  • Shirts: A maximum of 1.5 kg shirts/blouses made of cotton, linen, synthetic or blended fabrics
Smoothing creased fabrics

Sometimes your clothes look as tired as you feel after a tough meeting. Even though still clean, they're too creased to wear again. Your dryer can make them look fresh, smooth and ready for a new day's challenges.

  • Shirts: smooth dry shirts and blouses that haven’t been worn for long. Choose the option for just 1 item or 2–5 items.
  • Business: reduce creases in dry suits, jackets and trousers worn for short periods and labelled “dry clean only”.
Mixed loads
Dark denim together silvery and blue fabrics.

Have a mix of items you need dried? Choose one of these programmes:

  • Jeans: best for clothing made of denim.
  • Mixed load: use for a combination of cotton and synthetic items.
  • Super Quick 40': suitable for a mix of synthetic fabrics and light cottons.
Timed programmes
A finger presses buttons on the control panel of a Siemens dryer.

As the name suggests, a timed programme runs for a specific duration and you can adjust that period. Just remember that since residual moisture isn’t detected, wet laundry may not be dry at the end. You can always extend the duration or run it again.

  • Timed programme warm: suitable for all kinds of pre-dried or slightly damp fabrics except silk as well as for drying off multi-layered, thick laundry.
  • Timed programme cold: good for all fabrics except wool and silk as well as for freshening up or airing clothing that hasn't been freshly washed.
A hand holds the laundry label on a garment flat so that it's easier to read.

What can’t take a tumble

Your Siemens appliance has programme for just about everything, but there are some things that are better kept out of the dryer. It’s best to refer the care label, but if it’s missing, keep an eye out for these items:

  • Delicate fabrics, such as silk and certain types of wool, may lose their shape, especially if you select the wrong settings.
  • Only dry T-shirts with prints at low temperatures to prevent the print from warping.
  • Always double-check that synthetic textiles are suitable for tumble drying.
  • Watch out for non-slip bathmats, they're often not dryer safe.
  • Any textile that contains foam, including pillow inserts and shoulder pads, are not suitable for the dryer.
