Immerse your home in the season of Autumn.

Autumn has quickly come upon us and as many of us already miss the long days and the heat of the summer, there is also a good feeling in the air as the temperature begins to drop and the landscape turns into beautiful shades of oranges and warm tones. We will be looking forward to the cosy nights and the wintery walks ahead as we welcome in the new season. As we spend more time at home it has increasingly become a haven for creativity. Here are a few ideas that will help you turn your home into an autumnal spectacle...

Setting the tone, naturally

There is a lot to be said for a neutral colour pallete. Not only does it maintain a fresh yet minimal look, it also gives you the freedom to effortlessly adapt through trends and seasons.

Scandinavian design has long influenced our homes, however, today it is ever more important due to its ability to satisfy both style and substance.

We aim to source unique pieces from independent designers that ensure quality craftsmanship are at the heart of their designs. It helps our homes feel more unique whilst supporting artists and craftsmen alike.

A minimalist home, with its stripped back and uncluttered style, serves a purpose. It creates a space of calm, tranquility and pleasure. These spaces are not cold, they are comfortable and serene spaces for reflection.

Much-loved Rattan furniture can be used to add texture and detail to a space accentuating both minimality and visual contrast. Styling your space with fur throws or tassle-lined rugs will add comfort and refined detail. Create a statement by adding colourful patterns and shapes through the use of cushions, paintings and table décor.

Embracing culture

Many of us, as we travel the world, find ourselves experiencing wonderful moments that we would like to capture in fine detail. Often these are in the form of souvenirs, though you will find no keychains or fridget magnets here. Instead we favour items that not only reawaken treasured memories of our travels, but those that unearth the rich diversity of the world around us.

It is not just for the traveller to embrace this trend, but to find something that is meaningful to you. It should bring you happiness, calmness or a thought-provoking moment when you lay eyes on the items in your home.

It could be as simple as a cushion with a traditional print, a poster, a print, a vase. Statement ceramics can make for beautiful centerpieces whether they are set on a petite coffee table or a long, stylish concrete dining table. It should seamlessly fit within your style. Complementing the scene in which it will stand centre stage.

Global influences are hugely important. It reminds us there is a world out there full of different culture and influence much different to our own. It educates us in many ways but most of all gives us an appreciation for the differences that help connect us all.

Healthy conscious, healthy mind

As we spend more time at home, we look to see how we increasingly consider how design can complement our new lifestyles. Now, more than ever, we are striving for calm. Away from the hustle and bustle of the kitchen, or the blue light and noise of our smart phones - this space is for reflection, for much needed ‘me time’.

Home comforts are important and as mentioned before, they can help a space feel comforting and warm. Soft furnishings, such as throws, make sofas and armchairs feel more welcoming.

Always complement on colours and tones so as not to make the room feel busy and cluttered. Remember this should be a space to switch off your mind.

Preserved flowers and stems are a new way to enjoy plants within your home. They can last up to 3 years, making them a lot more cost-effective and sustainable than buying fresh flowers weekly. Not only do flower arrangements come in neutral tones, usually made up of grasses and stems; the flowers give off beautifully muted hues of dusky warm colours and deeper shades, adding colour depth and texture to your space.

This space should be a combination of serenity and playfulness, as comfortable for reading, as it is for friendly conversation. No distractions, just gentle, effortless beauty, helping you maintain a healthy mind.

Spice up Autumn

Alongside the Scandi influence, seasonal colours and textures are also a fantastic way to add some much needed autumnal spice to your home. The deep rich tones of cinnamons and terracottas of the 70s are coming back with a sophisticated twist. Gone are the extravagant blends of these colours into intricate patterns and murals, today, we see them with dark tonal woods, glass and even brass fixtures.

Bold terracotta walls are complemented well with the comeback of walnut. A dark and intense colour of a tight-grained texture, this wood is a craftsman’s favourite for its strength and durability. It is timeless in style and can add real depth to a room.

Brass too has gone full-circle and can be found featured across our homes in light fixtures, mirrors and other fittings around our homes. The rich, brushed finishes complement the warmer colour palettes favourably whilst retaining a look of quality and timelessness.

Smooth lines of rounded furnishings, such as mirrors or even cushions, create seamless lines within your space. They create fluidity and allow for a more refined look.

Complementing your style

With any trend, it is important to look at your lifestyle. The best created spaces work around how you use your home and the space around you. Whether you hold rooms exclusively for your own use or to enjoy entertaining guests, these influences will continually change and influence your design. It is therefore imperative that you stay open-minded and inspired for whatever life brings.
